Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) is Infinity Ward's sequel to their 2019 reboot, delivering a campaign where the Task Force 141 team (Soap, Ghost, Price) battles Mexican cartels and an international terrorist threat. The game introduced an important series first, a new DMZ (extraction-style, dangerous zone) mode, and expanded traversal mechanics for multiplayer (swimming, diving, stealth movement). The Gunsmith weapon customization system was deepened further with the 'Weapon Platforms' concept, letting players realistically alter each weapon's physical characteristics. The campaign was praised for having some of the most cinematic and realistic visuals seen in the series.
