Mortal Kombat 1 is NetherRealm Studios' bloody and unrelenting fighting game that rebooted the series' timeline from scratch. The story, beginning with Fire God Liu Kang recreating the entire universe, presents well-known characters (Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden) with entirely new relationship dynamics. Alongside the series' defining, extremely violent, blood-soaked Fatality finishing moves, the game introduced a new mechanic called the Kameo system — players can call in an assisting second character during a fight to make use of their special moves. Its cinematic story mode, widely praised as one of the series' best, is backed by Hollywood-quality cutscenes.
