Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 is DICE's entry that moves the series to the near future (2042), launching entirely multiplayer-focused without a story campaign. Playing as 'Non-Patriated' soldiers displaced by climate crises and war, players fight on massive 128-player maps featuring dynamic weather events (like tornadoes) and shifting map states, with unique abilities via the Specialists system of characters. The game faced technical issues at launch and criticism over the removal of the classic 'class' system, but has been significantly improved through subsequent updates (a Season system, the return of classic class elements).
