It Takes Two is Hazelight Studios' platform-adventure game designed entirely for two-player cooperative play (it cannot be played solo). Cody and May, a couple going through a divorce, are magically transformed into two small rag dolls by their daughter; needing each other to survive, they embark on an adventure through an imaginatively expansive world spanning their home, garage, and garden. The game's most striking aspect is that each chapter introduces a completely different gameplay mechanic — time control in one level, magnetic powers in another, music-themed puzzles elsewhere — keeping the experience constantly fresh. Its design, requiring both players to depend on each other through constant communication and coordination, established it as one of the most creative examples of the co-op genre, and it won the 2021 Game of the Year award.
