Resident Evil Village is Capcom's RE Engine-developed entry that reconsiders the series' balance between horror and action. Set after the events of Resident Evil 7, the story follows Ethan Winters, who, after suffering a family tragedy, explores a snow-covered gothic European village and four different 'lords' and their territories, including the mysterious Lady Dimitrescu and her massive castle. The game shifts from RE7's more claustrophobic, limited horror style toward a structure with larger, more varied environments (castle, village, factory, swamp) and more action-focused moments. A trading system (the mysterious merchant, the Duke), weapon upgrades, and classic Resident Evil resource management remain preserved as elements familiar to series fans.
